ABOUT APRICOT TREE HOTEL

Our Past lingers on as we become better.

Wangchuk Tsering Fargo, the proprietor of Apricot Tree, grew up in the village of Nurla. His family has lived here for more than five generations living off their fields of barley, grazing their livestock, trading and growing apricots.

His grandfather, Tsering Chospel, worked as a Mail Runner and also occasionally as a guide to intrepid visitors to Ladakh in the 1930s and 40s. It was from him that Wangchuk grew up hearing stories about his travels, the tourists that came through, and a smattering of English and German words his grandfather had picked up. In 1974 the Indian government opened Ladakh to tourists and by 1978 Wangchuk had established Fargo Travels. It remains today as one of Ladakh’s oldest and leading travel company’s for adventure and cultural tours. He has a team of dedicated personnel who are qualified in trekking and mountaineering, and informed on the ecological, cultural and religious heritage of Ladakh.
